Chiropractors are primary health care professionals concerned with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system and maintaining overall health.

There is an emphasis on both manual treatments (spinal adjustment, mobilizations and soft-tissue therapy) and active rehabilitation. Hands on therapy helps to relax the nervous system/ improve movement while exercise, stretching and postural awareness maintain strength and prevent recurrent injury. Care is patient-centred and individualized to lifestyle, personal preferences and goals.

Our Chiropractors believe in the value of working in conjunction with mainstream medical professionals to provide the best possible patient care and outcomes.

Coming from the Traditional Chinese Medicine healthcare system, acupuncture is a common modality used to create a neuroendocrine response. Your neuroendocrine system refers to the aspects of the brain and body that regulate chemicals responsible for hormone balance, mood, immune strength, digestive health, stress, inflammation, and more. Acupuncture is the use of hair-thin, stainless steel needles or pins that are inserted into the body along specific channels. The channels are associated with internal organs like the liver, spleen, and heart, and with specific tissues like blood vessels, lymphatic vessels, and fascia. The needles interact with the flow through these
channels, and stimulate an electrochemical change which affects the physiology of the associated organs and tissues.

Acupuncture alone has been shown to have efficacious results in treating conditions such as depression, anxiety disorders, insomnia, pain, gas and bloating, IBS, Crohn’s disease, skin conditions, sciatica, arthritis, headaches, menstrual issues, weight gain/loss, and addictions.

Our acupuncturist has extensive training in Nutrition & Diet Therapy, Moxibustion, Cupping, and Acupuncture. As a holistic practice, Traditional Chinese Medicine encompasses all of these modalities in each session, according to the client’s individual health goals and needs.

Pedorthic

Pedorthic Services at Creekside are concerned with foot health and mechanics. Our Pedorthist is highly skilled and experienced with over 30 years of practice, addressing complaints through a combination of exercise and rehabilitation and lifestyle advice.

Yoga & Personal Training

I grew up in a small Alberta town where my foray into martial arts led me to a passion for fitness, health and wellness. This would later lead me to pursue traditional Chinese medicine.

Eventually I completed a Bachelor of Kinesiology from the University of Regina, majoring in Fitness and Lifestyle. I then completed my Diploma of Acupuncture program and graduated from the Calgary College of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture in 2019.

I take a holistic approach to treating patients by combining acupuncture with traditional Chinese medicine diagnosis, modalities and lifestyle recommendations to restore balance to the body, alleviate pain and improve functionality.

With this approach I can treat a variety of issues causing pain along with digestive problems, insomnia, stress, anxiety and many others!

When I’m not in the clinic I like to experience the natural beauty of the Okanagan outdoors, practice martial arts and hit the gym.

I graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic in 2017 and have been helping patients find solutions to their musculoskeletal pain ever since. Before my graduation, I had the opportunity to do a doctoral clerkship in the pain management unit of the Central Iowa Veterans Affairs Hospital. Over the years, I have taken numerous continuing education courses to further expand my knowledge and am one of the few chiropractors certified in the McKenzie Method of Diagnosis and Therapy.

My clinical approach involves a comprehensive history and assessment to provide patients with a thorough understanding of their condition and available treatment options. Ensuring that my patients feel heard, and not rushed during their visits is of utmost importance to me. Depending on each patient’s individual needs, I utilize various treatments such as joint mobilization and manipulation (adjustments), exercise therapy and rehabilitation, soft-tissue treatments, and patient education.

I have experience treating patients with a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions, but I have a particular interest in helping those with low back pain, neck pain, sciatica, disc herniations/bulges, spinal stenosis, and sports injuries.

Outside of the clinic, you might find me running on the rail trail training for my next marathon, hiking in Kal Park, biking on one of our beautiful trails, or enjoying any of the other outdoor activities that Vernon has to offer. Additionally, I am a part-time instructor at Okanagan Valley College of Massage Therapy.

Murray Wood is a Pedorthist and former owner and operator of Thomas Wood Pedorthic Clinic in Orillia, Ontario. In recent years decided to move out West and join Marie Catherine at The Sole Mate and eventually join our team at Creekside. He brings with him over 40 years of experience and expertise in the foot and footwear industry. He began his career in the family specialty orthopedic footwear business where he developed a strong foundation of knowledge of feet and footwear. This coupled with his seemingly endless supply of energy and passion for his Pedorthic work has propelled him into some impressive roles in the Pedorthic world. He helped to create the Canadian Prescription Footwear Association, and was instrumental in developing the educational and ethical standards of today as the first president of the Pedorthic Association of Canada.

His deep appreciation for health and understanding of athleticism makes him the first choice for referrals by physicians and athletes in Ontario. He implements an important yet often overlooked aspect of stretching and strengthening programs for hip, core, foot and the lower limb in the treatment of foot pathologies. Personally, he has an extensive athletic background competing in Ironman triathlons, ultra distance running, mountain, road and gravel riding, paddle board racing and a deep passion for Nordic skiing and holds a level 4 CANSI instructor designation, level 1 CANSI Telemark Ski instructor, and level 1 PMBI mountain bike instructor. Samantha Jahnig RMT Born and raised in Vernon I am happy to be back in the Okanagan! My husband and I recently moved home prior to the arrival of our baby girl in September 2019. We are looking forward to taking full advantage of skiing at Silver Star in the winter, swimming in the lakes in the summer, and everything in between. I completed my Massage Therapy training in Vernon in 2011, and since then I have gained experience in various cities and working alongside an array of other health professionals. I have come to appreciate the skills and abilities of practitioners of various designations and encourage the team approach when it comes to each individual’s well being. My goal is to live my life in a whole and balanced way and I aim to reflect this in my practice and in my approach to each individual’s needs. I have furthered my training over the years through various soft tissue courses, as well as completing the full Dr.Vodder method of Manual Lymphatic Drainage. I enjoy educating patients with lymphedema and supporting them through their treatment with the goal to improve quality of life. During a session with me you can expect moderate-deep pressure, with a tendency towards specific and focused work, that can easily be adjusted to lighter and more general techniques according to what is preferred or indicated. Registered Massage Therapists Alison Edmonds, RMT

Alison has been practicing as an RMT since graduating from massage school in Vancouver in 2012. Alison grew up in Ontario, received her bachelor degree in Physical Education and Health from the University of Toronto, moved to BC in 2009 and hasn’t looked back. She moved to Vernon in the summer of 2016 with her young family so they could play in the lakes and the explore the mountains. Alison’s passion for massage lies both in women’s health and pediatrics. Women’s health is also a strong focus for Alison. She has taken courses in pre and post natal massage and breast massage. Pre and post natal (no matter how far past child birth you are) brings all new stresses to the body and Alison likes to focus on these areas by using a therapeutic approach to relaxation massage to both target specific areas of pain but also bring an overall feeling of well being. Incorporating both the abdomen and breasts into a massage is something Alison likes to focus on but can at first sound like an unexpected area of the body to work with. However, work done here can help with back pain, help with better breathing, improve c-section scars or other scarring and can help bring a full feeling of connection to the body and Alison is all about connecting the body together. Alison has taken post graduate courses in pediatrics to work with soft tissue and injury related pain as well as anxiety and other mental health related pain. She has also taken courses in working with children with autism and is an instructor in infant massage. It can truly be amazing how much tension children can build up within their bodies that massage can help release. As part of every massage Alison likes to give tips and techniques that can be used at home, by caregivers or the children themselves, to help ease this tension on a daily basis. Alison loves to chat about what she does or anything else body related, so please stop her while she’s flying around Creekside if you have any questions or are interested in learning more about what she does.

The Okanagan Valley has been Tanya’s home since she was born, so, it undoubtedly follows that she continually enjoys its great beauty and nature through gardening, cooking with fresh and local food, and outdoor activities such mountain biking, cross-country skiing and camping with her husband Heath and their 2-year old daughter Hannah Jane.

After graduating high school, Tanya focused her career, becoming an apprentice cook and attending culinary school, where she was awarded Red Seal certification as a professional chef at Okanagan College in 2010.

However, the typical fast pace of that business became juxtaposed to her interest in helping people. With this experience and insight Tanya had the impetus to refocus her career on something more complimentary – the healing arts. In 2012 therefore, she completed her certification in holistic nutrition, through the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition which later expanded to include massage therapy. Tanya graduated from Okanagan Valley College of Massage Therapy in December 2016, and completed her Board certification in March 2017.

Having worked locally for 2 years, She is now excited to return to work after maternity leave. Tanya patients receive a tailored therapeutic approach. Where a combination of lighter techniques such as myofacial release combined with trigger point therapy may be used. Tanya’s balanced methodology, helps her patients achieve wellness from a range of issues including headaches, migraines, chronic pain, sports injuries, and postural dysfunctions.
